Sun damage is the most common cause of premature ageing. Not only does sun damage lead to pigmentation, skin blemishes and the appearance of thread veins, it also leads to general thinning of the skin, lines and wrinkles and loss of volume.

What is sun damage?

Sun damageIn recent years, the general public are a lot more aware of the risks of sun damage and the development of skin cancers and there have been many national media campaigns emphasising the importance of using sun protection and limiting exposure to the sun. There are many people out there who never understood the damaging effects of the sun on the skin and heard this message too late, leading to a poor skin tone and texture and areas of hyperpigmentation and age-spots. Despite knowing this, it is a great shame that a glowing tan is still seen as an attractive feature desired by most and that some people even now still use sun-beds. The most important message that we can give to our clients at Cosmedic Skin Clinic is the use of a high factor, broad spectrum (UVA and UVB) sun-screen throughout the whole year.

It is quite ironic that the treatment of pigmentation and sun damage is by using light based treatments and photorejuvenation which can treat age spots and help improve skin texture and tone.

We will happily put you in our light box and perform a free of charge skin analysis to look for signs of sun-damage and ageing prior to treatment.
